I Have bee waiting what seems like eons for a really sassy gay character to be introduced in the comic-verse. I feel that Marvel has enough LQBT(Q) characters but i feel that one more really in-your-face (without being too offensive) could make me happy. can we ever expect to see this?

I have tons of gay friends and, I have to say, none of them are all that sassy,

bitchy, yes :-) but sassy no.

that seems to be the type of characterization best left to a gay or lesbian writer to write. even though I am as close to gay as you can get While still being attracted to girls I don’t think a straight writer should be writing will and grace kind of stuff.

I’m Jewish and I know that there are a lot of Jews who talk like, let’s say, Jackie Mason but if a non-Jewish writer was writing a character that talked like that I would be pretty annoyed :-)

Did you plan any backstory for those characters in this changed reality on Age of Ultron? I ask because I was wondering if the thing about Colonel America being a widower, as shown in Uncanny Avengers 8AU, comes from Remender and/or Duggan, or you.

that was in my scripts, and they ran with it. After the entire series is done I will post some scripts from age of Ultron so you can see how maddening the situation was particularly for Brandon Peterson.

If someone is a deadly martial artist, they get registered as weapons. Other weapons like firearms must be registered and there must be some training in order to legally own and wield them. Is requiring mutants to register as having the power to set a building on fire or blow up your mind any different than a human registering a weapon? Is that really asking too much of mutants? Or do humans not have the right to know if someone next to them can melt their faces off with a thought?

The other side of the argument is…What constitutes a power? I’ve talked about this in some of my books. for instance, I will never be able to play basketball worth a damn, does someone who can play basketball have a power that I don’t have?

Really like that you're introducing a new & diverse range of characters in UnAv. Will there be, or are there already, any LGBT characters in UnAv?

There already are. And I haven’t made a big deal about it because I live in a world where it’s not a big deal. when it becomes a part of the story it will be part of the story.

I just read the scene where Luke Cage wakes up from his coma and a pregnant Jessica Jones cries and declares her love for him and tells him how good he makes her feel. I loved that scene! Really beautiful! What was the inspiration for that scene? Something in your personal life or are you just a romantic guy?

I’ve talked about this in a couple of interviews but, yes, this is based on some real-life stuff.

10 years ago my wife had a serious allergic reaction to a medication that swelled her brain tissue and put her in a coma. she is fine now and has no recollection of this ever having happened.

she was in intensive care for a couple weeks, I was not allowed to visit, and I was told by the doctor that she had brain damage and was probably never going to wake up or recover. I was standing there with my little six-month-old baby and told to just go home and go about my day as there was nothing I could do but raise my daughter.

they literally gave me beeper like I was waiting for a table at PF Chang’s

my wife woke up, everything is fine, and nothing like that has ever happened again in all of these years. after it was over I discovered that I had, over the course of a few months, written a handful of ’ coma’ scenes in various books. I say ‘I have discovered’ it because I, in what I will be thinking about for the rest of my life, had no conscious recollection of writing any of them until the artwork came back.

only then did I go: oh my God, I guess I really needed an outlet.

on a side note, marvel comics informed me at the time not to worry about any of my books that they would go on hiatus if they had to rather than replace me and one day I came home and they had filled my house full of groceries without even asking me if I needed anything.

so when people ask me about my loyalty to joe quesada…
